Taylor Wimpey undertake zero carbon ready homes trial
Taylor Wimpey has announced a zero carbon ready homes trial on a live development site.
The trial is looking to demonstrate how the industry can deliver homes compliant with the incoming Future Home Standard (FHS) through varying combinations of technologies.
The five trial prototype homes will be located at a development site in Sudbury, Suffolk. The homes will combine an array of low-carbon technologies, and have been designed to ensure they can be sold and lived in. The trial seeks to find solutions that will enable the company to build high quality, zero carbon ready homes that are deliverable at scale.
As part of the trial, the company will collate customer feedback on the new homes to deliver high standards of build quality and understand how the green technologies employed can be used in everyday living.
The five homes will be 100% electric with triple glazing and enhanced building fabric to reduce heat loss. Inside the homes Taylor Wimpey will test a range of energy-efficient technologies including various air source heat pumps, heat pump cylinders, electric panel heating, smart cylinders, Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR), Waste Water Heat Recovery (WWHR), underfloor heating, ‘thermaskirt’ heated skirting boards, infrared radiant heating, sleek photovoltaic solar systems, innovative battery storage and EV charging.
The development site will also include a dedicated educational hub, which will showcase to interested parties the approach, low-carbon technologies and materials used as part of the pilot.
