Through the Solar Together scheme, householders and businesses can apply for up to 50 solar panels per property including solar panels with optional battery storage, EV charge points and retrofit battery storage, to reduce their bills and carbon emissions.

The scheme is operated by Ashford Borough Council and Kent County Council in partnership with IT services company iChoosr.

“This scheme is a great way to help householders navigate a move to renewable energy,” said Sophie Stiles, Ashford Borough Council climate change manager.

Ms Stiles added: “Change to a new technology can be daunting and we hope this scheme can give confidence and support.”

Householders, businesses and community groups can register online to become part of the group for free. Approved UK solar PV suppliers then participate in a reverse auction for the contract.

These suppliers are able to offer competitive pricing as the volume and geographic concentration makes it possible for them to realise greater efficiencies.

After the auction, registered households, businesses and community groups will be emailed a personal recommendation. The specifics of their installation will be confirmed with a technical survey, after which a date can be set for the installation of their solar PV system.

Since the initiative launched in 2020, more than 280 solar PV and battery installations were completed across the Ashford borough.
