Sava helps North Devon Homes to secure part of £4.7 million of funding

North Devon Homes have secured part of £4,700,000 of funding under wave one of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). They will use this funding for energy improvements to properties across the South-West of England.

North Devon Homes is a non-profit making housing association that seeks to provide affordable homes for people living in North Devon. They manage homes and deliver services to over 3,100 properties.

North Devon Homes is part of a consortium of social housing organisations who worked with the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) to secure this investment as part of the South-West Energy Trust.

On receiving the news of their successful bid, Martyn Gimber, chief executive, said:

“We are delighted that our collective bid with the WECA has been successful. We are all working to reduce our carbon footprints as we move towards a net zero future and these funds will help us all on that journey.” 

Claire Fallow, head of asset management added:

“We are planning works to two of our sheltered housing bungalow sites that are in rural communities and without mains gas. As well as improving the thermal performance of these properties, we will be using this opportunity to learn more about reducing our carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency in other homes for the future. We’ll be working closely with our involved customers to consult on the results and delivery of this project.” 

Sava provided specific support on the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund wave 1 funding to a number of these customers and is looking forward to assisting more providers apply for wave 2 funding.

The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) will allow the upgrading of a significant amount of social housing stock to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C. Registered providers of social housing (including private and local authority providers) were able to apply for funding from a pool of up to £160,000,000 available in wave 1.

North Devon Homes, along with other social housing landlords will contribute a combined total of £3,500,000 of match funding alongside the £4,700,000 from Government.  Following their successful first bid, the consortium is already planning their application for wave 2 of this funding.

Dr Lisa Blake, technical manager at Sava commented: 

“We have a team of consultants here at Sava who are able to provide a range of services to housing providers looking to reach carbon zero.

The Space Heating Demand is a very useful metric, ensuring a true fabric first approach, we were pleased to see this as one of the criteria for the SHDF bids. We assisted several of our customers in deriving this metric from the planning outputs from Intelligent Energy, and now have this metric available in all future plans. Completing bidding forms is not always simple, we were able to extract the relevant information from the Intelligent Plans so our customers had one less thing to worry about.”

For over 25 years Sava has been providing energy analysis software and consultancy support to over 200 housing providers, managing over 3 million assets. Previously known as National Energy Services, Sava introduced the UK’s first energy rating scheme in the mid-1980s and was instrumental in developing the current regime of SAP and EPC’s. Sava Intelligent Energy offers in-depth calculation, analysis and improvement planning for social housing providers and assists them with their Carbon Zero planning.
