SMS plc, the integrated energy infrastructure company, has acquired the domestic services division of Manchester-based Evergreen Energy.
Evergreen Energy’s domestic services division specialises in the installation and maintenance of renewable energy assets, including heat pumps, solar and battery storage for homeowners. The acquisition will build upon SMS’s capacity to deliver an extended range of low-carbon, behind-the-meter energy solutions to the UK’s domestic and commercial marketplaces.
The company say the acquisition is highly complementary to their role in the delivery of Great Britain’s smart meter programme, owning and managing c.4.5 million meter and data assets for customers, as well as delivering associated data solutions and demand flexibility services to energy suppliers, businesses, and consumers. SMS also funds, owns, installs, and operates a portfolio of other carbon reduction (CaRe) assets, including grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and electric vehicle charge points.
This latest deal follows other strategic investments by SMS in EV charge point software company, Clenergy EV, and the acquisition of smart energy data platform, n3rgy, which similarly bolstered their presence in the EV charging infrastructure and data services markets.
Speaking of the acquisition, chief executive officer of SMS, Tim Mortlock, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Evergreen Energy to the SMS Group and the significant technical expertise they bring in domestic heat pumps, solar PV and battery storage. Whilst we will continue to operate the Evergreen Energy brand that has been successfully established within the North West, the acquisition will bolster the Group’s overall capacity to deliver these carbon reduction assets on a wider national scale to a fast-growing domestic and commercial marketplace.
“The location of Evergreen’s Manchester base close to our national training academy and innovation centre in Bolton, where we are focussed on upskilling our engineering workforce and testing new technologies, will also be highly beneficial.”
Evergreen Energy’s other divisions, including the Homely and Easy MCS brands are not included in this transaction and will operate independently from the Evergreen Energy brand going forward.
