The Youth Sustainability Panel will be made up of 18–24-year-olds who live in Abri homes and neighbourhoods and will give customers a vital voice in shaping a sustainable future for their communities.

The housing provider is currently recruiting for eight sought-after places on the panel from its wide base of 80,000 customers across 35,000 homes in the South of England.

The forum will provide young people with the opportunity to openly share their experience, ambitions, and ideas; voicing their concerns on the climate emergency to help shape a net zero carbon landscape. Their thoughts and views will be a valuable addition to the organisation, the panel will work closely with Abri’s Resident Scrutiny Group who also play a key role in building a brighter and greener future at Abri.

From, offices, vehicles to homes, the organisation is working on all aspects of their business to find the most efficient way to reduce carbon emissions in everything that they do.

Rose Bean, Interim Executive Director of Assets and Sustainability commented:

“We’re excited to launch a Youth Sustainability Panel that will support Abri on its journey to reaching net zero by 2050. The youth of today are tomorrow’s future – their voice matters, and we want them to be part of the conversation. Ambitious to create a low carbon culture across the whole business, we’re on a journey together with colleagues and customers to lower our carbon footprint.

The panel is a great opportunity for the next generation to really shape their future homes and communities as well as playing their part in tackling climate change. Hearing their experiences and views will empower us to make better decisions for years to come.”

Abri was recently named number four on Housing Digital’s Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers list, they are working to reduce their carbon emissions by making their existing homes more energy efficient as well as building at least 1,000 new sustainable homes a year by 2030, which are expected to reduce emissions by up to 85%.

Individuals aged 18-24 who live in Abri homes and neighbourhoods and who are interested in applying to join the new panel can contact one.planet@abri.co.uk to find out more.
