Free retrofit training places available through The Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator

To achieve the UK’s commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050, an estimated 29 million homes will need to be retrofitted over the next three decades, and the social housing sector must be ready to undergo an ambitious upskilling process to enable retrofit capabilities to expand.

2023 Bootcamp events will be held in every region across England

The Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator (SHRA) has already supported hundreds of housing providers across the country deliver successful retrofit programmes.  They believe that what is needed now is for retrofit skills and knowledge to become mainstream across the sector, with all members of an organisation being equipped with the fundamentals of retrofit.

While some employees may not be directly involved in retrofit work, being aware of the process and understanding key terminology can they think help an organisation deliver, but with so many aspects of retrofit to get to grips with, beginning to learn can be overwhelming.

The SHRA’s series of Retrofit Essentials Bootcamps focus on the key building blocks of housing retrofit in just one day.  These are free, in-person events hosted by the SHRA and led by specialists.

As well as getting retrofit first-timers on board, the bootcamps provide a chance for more experienced practitioners to refresh their knowledge, keep up to date with the latest thinking and explore new perspectives.

All the sessions include lots of opportunities to ask questions, and for providers to come together and discuss shared challenges.

By holding the Retrofit Essentials Bootcamps in different locations around the country, SHRA is hoping to reach as many people as possible whilst also allowing providers the opportunity to engage with peers from their own region.

In 2023, events will be held in every region across England, including London, West Midlands, East of England, North West, North East, Yorkshire & the Humber, South East and the South West

The Retrofit Essentials Bootcamps are free to join and open to housing associations, local authorities, combined authorities, and any other registered providers, regardless of previous experience.

The summer series of bootcamps began in July at the University of Westminster in London.  The SHRA has enjoyed the support of local authorities and organisations around the country and this first event was sponsored by London Councils.

Hannah Jameson, climate change programme director at London Councils said:

“The Retrofit London Programme, supported by London Councils and the London Housing Director Network, was pleased to be able to host the first one-day Retrofit Essentials Bootcamp.

“We know skills are a critical part of meeting London’s retrofit ambitions so it was great to see over 75 colleagues, from a broad range of organisations, learning about the core elements of housing retrofit as part of a CPD accredited session.”
