PlanBee by the Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team was selected as the winner of Biodiversity and nature category at the first Unlock Net Zero Live Awards.
Announced at a ceremony held at Housing 2023 and hosted by Unlock Net Zero ambassador Kunle Barker, this category sought entries that could show how they have enhanced a place and/or community through the promotion of biodiversity and nature. This could be permanent or temporary work ranging from the enhancement of habitats to wider place-based ecological assessments and management strategies and measured outcomes from projects and developments carried out between January 2021 and March 2023.
The judges said of PlanBee:
"We were particularly impressed by the emphasis on involving residents and community stakeholders to co-design the project which has delivered at an impressive scale and increased participation in and access to nature for over 2000 residents."
Highly commended in this category was Ground Control and The Wildfell Centre for Environmental Recovery. The judges noted that:
"This project is delivering a true level of scale (296 acres) with backing from an investment fund highlighting that such activity if commercially attractive and linked to ESG activities."
