For the past three years, the Disruptive Innovators Network has been on a mission – a mission to shake up the norms, push boundaries, and pave the way for innovation in the world of social housing.
And guess what? We’re turned heads with our ground breaking initiative – DINLabs.
DINLabs: Where Innovation Takes Flight
Picture this: a select group of about five members diving headfirst into the world of technology, testing the waters for a cool 12 weeks, and then bringing back the wisdom to share with the entire gang. That’s the magic of DINLabs, where innovation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a hands-on experience.
Expanding the Horizon: Meet the DINCubator
Last year, we cranked up the innovation dial even further. Enter the DINCubator – a platform where we dig deep, research, and test innovative solutions over a 12-36 month stretch. These aren’t just experiments; they’re ’legacy’ projects that aim to leave a lasting impact. And we’ve got two of these in action:
1. Healthy Homes – Bridging the Gap
The challenge is clear: managing ’home conditions’ and ’customer health and wellbeing’ in one fell swoop. It’s not just about fixing damp and mould; it’s about a paradigm shift in how we approach housing solutions. DIN is all about challenging the status quo, and Healthy Homes is our vehicle for change.
Through partnerships with member organisations, top-notch researchers, and industry innovators, we’re on a mission to pioneer practical solutions. We’re dreaming big, envisioning a future where operating models shift from asset-centric to customer-centric, from reactive to preventive, and from siloed to systemic solutions. Healthy Homes is not just a project; it’s a blueprint for a healthier future.
Initiative One: Decarbonising the NHS
…well supporting that feat! By reimagining and shifting health and care delivery to the home, with a spotlight on prevention. It’s not just about cutting carbon; it’s about transforming the very essence of healthcare, making it personal, proactive, and, above all, green.
Initiative Two: Decarbonising Our Homes to make them healthy
And then, there’s the second initiative – the decarbonisation of our homes. Its something that needs to happen, but in a way that makes the homes healthy and ideally the residents living in them.
And critically ensuring any potential negative unintended consequences of those actions are identified and prevented.
Our team is a powerhouse of bright minds, fuelled by the passion to bridge the gap between health and housing.
Meet the Minds Behind Healthy Homes
Our star players? None other than the brilliant minds of DIN members. These folks aren’t just thinking outside the box; they’re rewriting the entire playbook. We also have UK Research & Innovation, Ethos Partnership, Cube Consulting, and Halton Housing. These are the unsung heroes backing our mission, contributing their expertise to make Healthy Homes not just a project but a movement.
2. Warm Rents DINCubator – Warming Hearts and Homes
Cold homes are not just uncomfortable; they’re a serious health hazard, costing lives and putting millions at risk. The Warm Rents DINCubator is our answer to this chilling issue. The basic principle is simple but revolutionary – include the cost of heating in the rent.
By maintaining a minimum temperature of 18°C from 6 am to 10 pm and 16°C overnight, we’re combating fuel poverty and its detrimental effects. The energy cost is on us, the landlords, ensuring that the basic level of heating is inclusive in the cost of housing. Customers can choose to go warmer by paying for optional uplifts, giving them control and comfort.
Sero are the architects of this Warm Rents DINCubator, working together with Switchee on the research. They’re both not just leading the pack; they’re spearheading this DINCubator initiative with gusto.
Expanding the Circle: More Minds, More Solutions
But hey, we’re not stopping there. We’re on a mission to grow the DINCubator family this year. Why? Because more minds mean more innovation, and more innovation means we can dive even deeper into research and test a plethora of ground-breaking solutions.
So, calling all housing providers with a spark for innovation! Join us in this epic journey. Let’s collaborate, ideate, and disrupt the norms together. The more, the merrier, right?
Let’s make this year the one where we set new standards, and show the world what happens when disruptors unite.
So, fellow innovators, let’s toast to the future – a future where our experiments today become the standards of tomorrow.
