Our Unlock Net Zero stage will bring together an audience of influencers from local authorities, housing organisations, consultancies and the supply chain to debate and identify solutions that can deliver the practical transition to a low carbon future.
The housing sector is facing the dual challenge of building new low carbon homes at pace and scale, whilst also ensuring existing homes meet net zero targets by 2050. Urgent action and true collaboration is essential to finding the solutions to these challenges.
Across the week, there are a number of activities at the conference focused on our agenda. Here is a preview of what is in store, together with details on how you can join us.
Monday 27 June, 14:00-17:00
(This is exclusively for delegates of the conference)
Get your walking shoes on, enjoy some fresh air, and join us on study tour! This is a chance to get a close up look at projects that are leading the way in the development of net zero homes.
We will be visiting the largest test and research facility of its type – Energy House 2.0 at the University of Salford. The facility which is testing low carbon technology across different home types and weather conditions is playing a leading role in the development of the next generation of net zero homes. Also as part of the tour we will also experience the practical reality of a large low carbon residential development in Manchester.
Tuesday 28 June – Thursday 30 June
Join us at the Unlock Net Zero stage for three days of debate and expert views. Among the topics that our sessions will cover are:

Tuesday 28 June
Join us at our Climate Change Hackathon where you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and help create a powerful and impactful consumer campaign, that will aim to influence people to change their behaviours and help reduce the impact of climate change.
We will be hosting a series of hacks focusing on communicating climate change. The key question we want to tackle is:
“How can you help your neighbour address climate change?”
We have neighbours in all walks of life and everyone wants to be a good neighbour. So how do we talk to them about climate change and the role they can play? If we think on this level any campaign should be able to talk to all, tenants, employees, peers, board, stakeholders and supply chain.
We are seeking ’hackers’ to join us for these two-hour sessions to share their ideas and help create an accessible communications campaign that is unique with a strong, creative, and viral message that can reach a wide range of people.
It will be fun. It will be creative. And the winning hack will be turned into a live campaign by our creative partners the communications group Social to be rolled out later this year on Unlock Net Zero, at the Inside Housing Communications Conference in September and within Inside Housing magazine.
The hackathon is open to everyone. No expertise is needed - just the passion to make a difference! You will have access to climate change and communications experts to help guide your ideas on the day. Plus, each session will kick off with an inspirational “lightning talk” to provide food for thought.
Wednesday 29 June, 16.30-17.30, AICO stand
Join our partner AICO for their welcome drinks. AICO were one of the founding partners of Unlock Net Zero and we will be joining them on the night to talk about a holistic approach to fire safety and a fair green transition for all tenants and residents.
Thursday 30 June, 10.00-12.00, Exchange 11
This workshop will help you to understand the steps you need to consider to make your retrofit project eligible for SHDF wave 2 funding which is expected to launch in August. Understand from BEIS themselves how to access this funded programme of support available to all Registered Providers of Social Housing, and how to engage the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator to be ‘bid-ready’.
