Initially launched in 2021, the net zero toolkits have been updated to include new archetypes, multi-residential blocks and whole life costing.

The future homes standard toolkit

The toolkit includes explanations of what net zero carbon means and the calculations used to meet the upcoming Building Regulations Part L and Part F and the Future Homes Standard. Possible approaches and currently available technologies are outlined, with commentary on the implications for design and residents’ future use of their homes. Our sustainability specialists have undertaken a modelling exercise on typical house and flat layouts to compare the compliance of available technologies, with input from our quantity surveying team to provide an assessment of the cost implications of meeting the standards.

Retrofitting existing homes toolkit

The toolkit includes an outline of why retrofit is needed, the government guidance available and the challenges that are presented by the need to upgrade vast amounts of housing stock. We have also summarised potential strategy options alongside the technology choices that are available, and crucially, our sustainability specialists have undertaken a modelling exercise on a range of typical archetypes to outline the energy saving potential of a range of interventions.
