The Fit for the Future programme by Exeter City Council was selected as the winner of the Green homes upgrade of the year, landlord owned category at the first Unlock Net Zero Live Awards.
Announced at a ceremony held at Housing 2023 and hosted by Unlock Net Zero ambassador Kunle Barker, this category focused on exemplar approaches to retrofitting existing homes. Entrants showcased how they have tackled the climate emergency or fuel poverty, evidencing how their work has minimised energy use. Once again the popularity for this category meant it was split to recognise the work of landlord properties and then single project developments.
Talking about the work of the Fit for the Future programme, the judges said:
"This was an excellent entry that demonstrated really effectively the impact of the retrofitting measures to the 600 properties which formed the pilot. We were impressed by the level of tenant engagement through their 360 reviews which is helping them to inform their future approach."
Highly commended in this category was Platform Housing and their Platform Net Zero programme. The judges said:
"This was another high quality entry from an organisation clearly demonstrating its commitment to net zero. Retrofitting measures have a significant impact on carbon reduction and improving the efficiency of homes as well as improving tenants lives and saving them money. Platform were able to evidence this clearly with their data."
