Cities, placemkaing, living and the net zero challenge
The delivery of net zero across the UK will not be through a one-size fits all solution. Instead, it will be delivered by a series of regional solutions that reflect the geographical infrastructure and energy supply of that location.
Therefore, we thought it was important to explore the different activities taking place across the UK, to understand these different approaches to decarbonisation, but also to see if learnings can be shared from how cities and wider regional institutions are tackling the shared challenges of housing demand, placemaking and the move to net zero.
This programme will explore the actions of UK cities to develop regeneration and placemaking in conjunction with the transition to net zero, focusing on their practical delivery and social value impact. We will be identifying common actions, approaches, and engagement initiatives with their communities.
Our aim is to collate learnings from across the country and produce a set of recommendations for the next government to help drive forward the decarbonisation agenda whilst developing our cities, homes, and places into healthier more prosperous places to live and work within.
We are focusing on 22 cities in this programme across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to get a representation of work presently underway. We will engage with them to understand their priorities in this area. This will be through a series of interviews with regional leaders from across the UK and supplement this with case studies of practical implementation of decarbonisation and regeneration activity.
That information will be covered here on these pages as written pieces, video interviews and will also feature as part of our live events, including bespoke webinars and our conference programmes at Unlock Net Zero Live and Housing 2024.
This work will cumulate in a report which will feature learnings from the programme to be launched in July 2024.
